Understanding Holmes County Releases
“Released” describes an end to one agency's custody, not always a return to the community. The Holmes County Jail holds people awaiting court action as well as some sentenced county and state inmates. A person may leave after bond, recognizance, dismissal, or completion of a county sentence. Another person may leave the same roster because the Florida Department of Corrections, another county, a federal authority, or immigration officials accepted custody. That second event is a transfer. The receiving agency's record must be checked before calling it a community release.
Holmes County released inmates normally disappear from any current-custody display because a live roster answers who is held now. The durable trail remains with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office, the Clerk of Court, or the agency that received the person. A sheriff booking and release sheet can document the physical exit. The court docket explains the order behind it. For state-prison cases, the statewide FDC record supplies prison release, discharge, and supervision facts. Each source answers a different part of the question.
Holmes County Release Types
Release codes need context. Bond means the applicable conditions were met and jail processing could begin. Own recognizance means a judge authorized release without the full cash bond. Time served reflects a sentence or credit already satisfied. Dismissal concerns the prosecution, while probation may follow a judgment without any state-prison term. Parole and conditional release are distinct forms of supervised prison exit. None of those labels should be substituted for a transfer code.
| Event | Meaning | Next confirmation source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Release processing follows a court-authorized condition. | Sheriff release sheet and Clerk bond order |
| Time served or dismissal | The sentence credit or prosecution action may authorize exit. | Actual jail exit time plus certified court disposition |
| FDC commitment | The person leaves the county jail but remains confined. | FDC population search and sheriff movement record |
| Parole or conditional release | The person leaves prison under defined supervision. | FDC supervised population record and Commission order |
| Other-agency hold | Another county, USMS, or ICE may take custody. | Receiving-agency locator and sheriff transfer record |
Holmes County Release Record Fields
A useful request connects identity, booking, legal authority, and the physical custody event. Holmes County does not publish a field dictionary or a sample public release report, so the following items are fields to request, not a promise that each appears in one online screen. Ask for the booking and release sheet and, where necessary, the jail movement or custody-log entry.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Committed name and identifiers | Links the record to the correct person and separates similar names. |
| Booking number and booking time | Ties the exit to a specific Holmes County custody episode. |
| Release date and time | Records when jail processing ended, rather than when a judge signed an order. |
| Release authority or code | Distinguishes bond, recognizance, time served, dismissal, and other grounds. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Shows whether the person returned to the community or remained in another custody system. |
| Charge, bond, case, and jail credit | Connects the custody record with the legal case and sentence history. |
| Booking photograph | Supplies the agency image when it is public and available. |
A court order alone does not prove the time someone crossed the release desk. It may explain why release was authorized. The jail record supplies the administrative event and time. Likewise, an FDC release record may show a Release Date and a matching Incarceration History “Date Out-Custody” for a state prisoner, but it does not document a county-jail-only release.
Request Holmes County Release Records
The Holmes County Sheriff's Office Records section identifies Jeana Prescott as records custodian. Requests can be made in person, by phone, through the online form, or by email at records_request@holmesso.org. A narrow request should name the person, approximate date, booking or case number when known, and the precise release fields needed.
- Identify the custody episode with the full name, birth date if known, booking or case number, and a short date range.
- Ask for the public parts of the booking and release record, actual exit date and time, authority, and destination or receiving agency.
- Request the booking photograph separately if needed, and ask the custodian to identify the statutory basis for any withheld portion.
- Ask for an estimate before chargeable work begins. Payment is due before duplication or release after the office gives its estimate.

Under Florida Statute 119.07, the sheriff states that extensive clerical help or redaction may carry a special service fee of $17 per hour after the first 15 minutes. Cash, check, and money order are listed payment methods. The page gives no routine per-page fee, fixed response time, or public retention window, so none should be assumed.
Florida Rules for Holmes Records
Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes governs inspection and copying of public records while preserving statutory exemptions. Release does not erase a booking, photo, docket, or corrections record. Juvenile material, sealed or expunged cases, victim information, medical data, and security-sensitive details can be restricted. The custodian should cite the governing exemption when information is withheld.
Sealing or expungement follows a separate legal process. Florida may require an FDLE certificate of eligibility, a petition, and a court order. The FDLE Seal and Expunge Process explains the state route, while the Holmes County Clerk handles the local case filing. An official order can change public portal access, but mere release cannot. Formal advice about eligibility belongs with qualified counsel.
When Holmes Release Processing Starts
The HCSO bond information gives a useful local sequence. A person without a set bond routinely sees a judge within 24 hours. Booking receives the Clerk's first-appearance results at about 11:00 a.m. each day. A misdemeanor judge may order recognizance or time served, and a felony bond may change. That judicial action starts the administrative work; it is not proof that the person has left.
Payment can also precede the actual exit. After a bond order or payment, jail staff must complete release processing and check for other holds. Call jail option 2 and ask for the final release date, time, and authority. This distinction is especially important on a same-day lookup, when a court docket may show a new order before the sheriff can confirm physical departure.
Find Holmes County Released Inmates
Start with the system that held the person. Holmes has no official browser roster or recent-release archive, so the 24-Hour Releases route begins with a named-person inquiry. A missing roster entry cannot prove release. It may reflect transfer, a data delay, or movement under another authority.
- Call Holmes County Jail at 850-547-3681, option 2. Ask whether the person left for the community or went to another custodian, and request the actual date and time.
- Search the Holmes County court case for the order, disposition, sentence, bond change, probation, or commitment that explains the event.
- If state prison was involved, use the FDC population and inmate-release searches. Use the Release Date Lookup only for a state sentence, not a pretrial county detainee.
- Check VINELink for a recent event and register for notice when offered. Confirm any alert with the reporting agency.
- If the jail names a federal or immigration authority, move to BOP, the federal case, or ICE ODLS. Finish with a written records request when documentary proof is needed.
FDC Search for Holmes Releases
The Florida Corrections Offender Network separates current inmates, inmate releases, supervised people, absconders, and escapes. The dedicated Inmate Releases Search updates nightly and covers people already released or scheduled for release. It applies to felony offenders sentenced to FDC prison or state supervision. It expressly excludes county jail and county probation cases.
| Search input or field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| DC number | The most precise identifier for a Florida corrections record. |
| Last and first name | Name matching begins with the entered text; compare all plausible results. |
| Aliases and photograph controls | Broaden identity checking without treating appearance as current. |
| Release Date | An FDC exit date on a released record, best read with incarceration history. |
| Date Out-Custody | Confirms the matching exit in the state incarceration history. |
| Current status or location | An institution means custody; community supervision is release from prison but not full discharge. |
The official FDC name and DC-number form shows the scope warning and available search controls.
The form is the correct statewide starting point after a Holmes County state-prison commitment, but a same-day county bond release may never appear there.
A released FDC example shows how a Release Date can align with Date Out-Custody in the incarceration history.
Use those exact labels as evidence of an FDC exit, then check supervision data if the person remains under community control.
Holmes County Recent Release Lookup
No official browser-based Holmes County jail roster, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, archive, or release filter was found in the sheriff's navigation. The Florida Department of State's county jail directory also lists Holmes without an inmate-search link. There are therefore no published feed fields, photo rules, update schedule, or retention window to report.
Use the jail telephone for immediate confirmation, VINELink for a recent event, the court docket for authority, and a date-bounded records request for the durable record. The sheriff promotes MobilePatrol, but its Holmes-specific release window, current fields, and photo coverage were not verified. It must not be described as an official rolling release list.
Holmes Court Records and Release
The Clerk's Courts page sends searches to Civitek county 30. Search the criminal docket by party name or case number for first appearance, bond, recognizance, dismissal, judgment, jail credit, probation, FDC commitment, warrant, revocation, and discharge entries. Those records often remain after a short jail stay is no longer visible.
The Civitek entry warns that online data is informational rather than the authoritative public record or legal document.
Use a certified Clerk copy when formal proof matters. The docket explains legal authority, while the sheriff's release sheet establishes the physical exit time.
Holmes Post-Release Supervision Search
A person may be outside prison while still supervised. The FDC Supervised Population Search can show supervision begin date, type, current status, current location, and scheduled termination date for state cases. Holmes County is in FDC Circuit 14. The exact offender detail should determine the reporting unit. County probation is separate and must be confirmed through the court judgment and local office rather than inferred from an FDC no-result.
- Parole
- A supervised prison release available only in eligible Florida cases.
- Conditional release
- A separate statutory form of supervision following prison.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may occur without a prison term.
- Discharge
- Completion or termination of the relevant custody or supervision term.
The Post-Release Supervision page covers the Circuit 14 route, county probation, Commission records, and absconder status without treating community supervision as unconditional discharge.
Holmes Release Alerts and Locators
The Holmes sheriff links directly to Florida VINELink as Victim Notification. Search the correct agency by name or identifier, compare the person record, and read the precise status or event. When registration is offered, select a phone, text, or email channel and complete its PIN or confirmation steps. A release alert is a prompt to call the Holmes jail or FDC because an event can reflect transfer or delayed reporting.
Federal and immigration cases use different tools. The BOP Inmate Locator can show historical release dates for federal prisoners.
BOP does not cover ordinary Holmes County jail or Florida prison releases. ICE's ODLS locates current detainees and certain recent releases, but a missing result cannot prove community release.
Holmes Release or ICE Transfer
Holmes County's 287(g) Warrant Service Officer agreement creates a crucial local distinction. When criminal custody is scheduled to end, a qualifying person may instead be transferred to ICE. The agreement describes a limited hold period while that handoff is arranged. A sheriff record can therefore show release from the criminal matter without a return to the community.
Ask the jail to name the receiving authority and record the transfer time. Then check ICE ODLS by A-number and country of birth, or by its biographical search. If a match is absent, contact the relevant ICE/ERO office or use the immigration record. Holmes County Jail is not a dedicated ICE detention center, and ODLS is not a permanent county release archive.
Where Holmes Release Records Remain
The correct source follows the custody path, not the county where the original arrest occurred. More than one system may be needed when one agency releases a person directly to another.
| Situation | Current or historical source | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Held at Holmes County Jail | Jail option 2 and VINELink | Disappearance alone does not prove community release. |
| Released from county custody | Sheriff release sheet and Clerk case | A court order alone does not give the exit time. |
| Transferred to or released from FDC | FDC population, releases, and supervision searches | FDC excludes county-jail-only events. |
| Federal prison history | BOP locator and federal docket | It does not cover Florida or Holmes County sentences. |
| Immigration transfer | Sheriff receiving-agency answer and ICE ODLS | No ODLS match does not prove release. |
Holmes County Release Facilities
Holmes County Jail / Holmes County Sheriff's Office Work Camp handles local detention and some sentenced cases. Community release, transfer to FDC, and pickup by another authority all require different follow-up. Call the facility for the actual exit and receiving-agency facts, then use the sheriff record for written proof.
Holmes Correctional Institution is a separate FDC state prison. Its releases, transfers, and community-supervision outcomes belong in the statewide FDC record, never in a Holmes sheriff recent-release list. The institution is at 3142 Thomas Drive in Bonifay and can address facility questions, while the central offender record provides the stronger historical trail.
Holmes Jail Growth and Releases
The county jail opened in 2001 with a reported 125-bed capacity. A 2025 local report described a population as high as 180 during expansion discussions. In July 2026, the sheriff announced that the state budget included $1.25 million for an added housing pod, with an architect selection process underway, according to the funding report.
Those figures explain facility pressure but do not disclose how many people left custody, how long a particular person stayed, or whether a named person was released. Population movement includes admissions, community releases, court trips, and transfers. Individual release proof still comes from the jail record and court case. Capacity figures must never be converted into an estimated release rate.
